How to Pair Wine with Pie
Autumn’s arrival can only mean one thing…it’s pie season! Check out this article with some wine and pie pairings. And, here are our Claudine Wines recommendations for these pies. As always, if you make a pie and enjoy a glass of Claudine with it, please post and tag us. We want to see!
Pumpkin Pie -> Pair with our Oaked Reserve Chardonnay.
Key Lime Pie and Lemon Meringue Pie -> The article suggests a sparkling wine, and I would agree. We currently do not have a sparkling wine. If you would be interested in us sourcing one, drop a comment below!
Blueberry Pie -> Pair with one of our Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Choose from our Spring Mountain Cab or the Oakville.
Pecan Pie -> The article suggests pairing it with a dry sherry, but I suggest trying it with our 2018 Proprietary Red Blend (78% Mourvedre, 20% Zinfandel, and a splash of Grenache).

Update! We made pecan pie truffles and paired them with our Proprietary Red Blend. Perfection! Here’s the recipe!
Pecan Pie Truffles Ingredients:
2.5 cups pecans toasted and chopped
1 cup crushed graham crackers
1 cup light brown sugar
1/2 t salt
2 T maple syrup (plus a little extra if needed)
1/4 cup agave syrup
1.5 t vanilla
melted dipping chocolates
Directions: Combine the majority of your pecans (leave some for sprinkling on top), crushed graham crackers, brown sugar, and salt. Add maple syrup, agave, and vanilla. I needed to add a little extra maple syrup here for the consistency to be right, so just use your judgment there. Refrigerate for 15 minutes and pour yourself a glass of wine.
Line a cookie sheet with wax or parchment paper. Roll mixture into balls and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Melt dipping chocolates. Coat the truffles with chocolate and sprinkle with pecans. We left some naked and just drizzled the chocolate over the top as well. Pour another glass of wine and enjoy! Cheers!

Galicia for Foodies
Well, this article had my mouth watering! Great article for all you foodies out there and a recipe too! But, the quote that really got me was “Albariño can make pretty much anything taste good.” We couldn’t agree more. Have you tried our 2021 White Blend? It’s 70% Albariño and would pair perfectly with the recipe here.

United They Stand, Divided They Drink
Raise your hand if you love reading articles about marketing. Just me? Even if you have zero interest in marketing, they talk about typical customer tendencies in various areas of the United States. Do they mention your neck of the woods…would you agree with their generalizations? Drop a comment to start the conversation…we want to know!
The article mentions how white wine sales typically decrease in the cooler months, but some folks (me!) drink white year-round. Living at 9610 feet elevation, red wine doesn’t agree with me as well. I have not seen a study on this, but if you know of one or just have experience with this, please send it my way!
More discussion on sustainable wines: There is "earnest curiosity in organically, biodynamically and regeneratively grown wines everywhere. It wasn't that long ago that organic wines were equated with granola moms and fringe markets." But now, she says, "good farming is cool." Hmmm. Have you noticed that our White Blend and Petit Verdot are both sustainably farmed? But, we should mention that all of our wines are minimally touched. We only deal with esteemed winemakers who would never add “junk” to your wine. Just incredible grapes and beautiful techniques to make fantastic wine. So even if they didn’t grab the certification, know that the winemakers we deal with are dedicated to pure and clean winemaking methods.
